Senior Citizen Remodeling:
|
Thanks to modern technology, our population is living longer. That's wonderful news for all of
us! And while our population is living longer, we want to help everyone, especially Seniors, to
enjoy their lives more AND enjoy their independence longer. With just some simple remodeling
ideas and modifications, our beloved Seniors can greatly enhance their quality of life as well as
maintain their independence.
Grab Bars: Grab bars are extremely helpful in many areas of the Bathroom. From the shower
walls to the areas around the toilet, grab bars offer stability and security. Grab bars come in a
wide variety of colors suited to just about any decor. They come in many different finishes and
many different lengths. Steel City can provide a wide range of grab bars to suit your needs.
Lighting: People don't often think of how lighting can be an important "modification", but
Seniors know that a darkly lit hallway or stairway can be an accident waiting to happen. Make
sure there is adequate and proper lighting so that Seniors can navigate where they need to go
at night. Lights with sensors that come on when it gets dark are also really helpful.
Flooring: A hard surface might seem to be the perfect solution for those with walkers, canes,
etc. However, when Seniors fall on that hard surface, it could mean a trip to the hospital.
Consider carpet which would help to cushion the fall and help to prevent broken bones.
Hand-Held Showers: Hand-held showers are nice for a Senior to be able to control where the
spray of water goes without having to reach or stand on their toes to get to the shower head.
Hand-held showers come in a wide variety of styles and offer a wide range of shower settings.
Shower Seats: Shower seats can help to prevent falls in the shower. Used in combination with
grab bars, they offer a great way to help Seniors feel more secure in slippery showers.
Placement of Items: Remember to store items such as books and other often-used items at a
height where reaching and stretching is not necessary. This will also help to prevent falls.
Steel City cares about the needs of all of our customers and is proud to offer ways to help our
Seniors live longer, fuller, and more independent lives. Please contact us if we can help you too!
